President Dr Mohamed Muizzu inaugurated Masjid Yoosuf Al Barbaree (Barbaree Mosque) yesterday afternoon, opening the mosque in conjunction with the Asr prayer.
The mosque was developed by a private contractor and built as a modern three-storey structure with a capacity to accommodate 1,400 worshippers, on Majeedhee Magu.
Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, senior government officials and members of the public accompanied the President at the ceremony. Following the inauguration, President Muizzu toured the mosque premises.
The Government continues mosque construction and development projects across the Malé region under grant aid, as part of wider efforts to expand prayer facilities nationwide. Several mosques are scheduled to open this year, while a number of newly built mosques on various islands have already been inaugurated ahead of Ramadan.
