Psychological First Aid Helpline for Students Active Now

MV+ News Desk | June 19, 2023

Psychological first aid number 1484 is now accessible across the entire country from Saturday to Thursday, operating between 3 pm and 9 pm. The helpline was launched by the Ministry of Education in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to offer support to students facing mental health and psychosocial challenges.

The primary objective of establishing this helpline is to provide a formal avenue for students to seek assistance for their mental health and psychosocial well-being. By enhancing the school counseling service and leveraging the expertise of trained counselors, the helpline aims to reduce the number of students requiring clinical intervention by ensuring early access to support and intervention. Moreover, it seeks to identify and address the needs of students who can benefit from support at the school level.

The helpline is manned by skilled counselors who are equipped to offer guidance and support to students. It is important to note that while the helpline provides confidential assistance, it is not intended to replace medical care, nor is it suitable for emergency situations that demand immediate medical attention.

The initiative underscores the commitment of the Ministry of Education, WHO, and UNICEF to prioritize the mental health and psychosocial well-being of students. By providing an accessible platform for students to seek support, the helpline endeavors to promote their overall well-being and ensure that appropriate assistance is available to those who need it.

Students who require assistance with their mental health or psychosocial concerns can reach out to the Psychological First Aid Helpline at 1484 during the operational hours. Trained counselors are ready to lend an empathetic ear and provide the necessary guidance to help students navigate their challenges effectively.
