The government has begun sending cases of canned tuna to islands for distribution as Ramadan gifts.

According to a publication by the Local Government Ministry on Sarukaaru, the State Trading Organisation (STO) is managing the transfer of the tuna cases to the islands.

Distribution to households within the islands will be overseen by their respective councils. In the Male’ region, distribution commenced last Saturday and is expected to be completed by 11 February. Residents in Male’ can collect tokens for the distribution through the official website, roadhahadhiya.mv.

For Ramadan last year, the government distributed 118,673 canned tuna cases, including 56,918 households in Male’ and 60,755 across the atolls.

The government plans to increase the pace of shipments in the coming days to ensure timely delivery across all islands.
