The Rasfannu artificial beach area has reopened to the public following extensive renovation works that began in April.

The redevelopment project was undertaken by the Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development, which awarded contracts to the Maldives Transport and Construction Company (MTCC) and the Male’ Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) to address longstanding issues affecting the popular recreational area.

The project was inaugurated by Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development Dr Abdulla Muththalib and included several key improvements aimed at enhancing the beach environment and visitor experience.

MTCC completed the installation of a new drainage system to improve water drainage in the northern section of the beach. The company also replaced the existing embankment with modern culverts, carried out measures to address beach erosion, and modified the outer embankment to improve water circulation throughout the area. The irrigation system has also been completed as part of the redevelopment works.

MWSC was awarded the contract to establish public facilities for visitors, including toilets, drinking water fountains and lockers. The new amenities are intended to improve convenience and comfort for beachgoers.

Rasfannu was originally developed and opened in 2016 to provide a recreational space for residents of Malé. The project was carried out under the supervision of the ministry during the tenure of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu as Housing Minister.

The beach area features a range of facilities, including benches, barbecue areas for families, a dedicated hut and supporting facilities for recreational fishermen, and a designated parking area for visitors.

The ministry confirmed that the renovated Rasfannu area is now open to the public, providing an improved setting for leisure and family activities.
