The seaplane check-in area at Velana International Airport’s new terminal has been officially opened, becoming operational.

Located next to the arrival gate, the newly opened counters provide a spacious, air-conditioned environment aimed at improving passenger comfort. Images shared by Maldives Airports Company Limited show indoor greenery and dedicated seating areas designed to create a calm and relaxed atmosphere for travellers.
The new terminal was inaugurated on July 26 last year to coincide with Independence Day. Since its opening, all airlines operating at Velana International Airport have transitioned to the facility, with December recorded as one of the airport’s busiest months.
Although the seaplane check-in area is now in use, some passengers have reported that the process takes longer compared to operations at the previous terminal.
The introduction of the new seaplane check-in facility forms part of Maldives Airports Company Limited’s wider efforts to enhance the overall airport experience and provide a premium start to passengers’ journeys.
