Senior Citizens Center Launch Exercise and Recreation Programs

The Ministry of Social and Family Development has launched a series of exercise and recreational initiatives tailored for senior citizens residing in the Male’ City area.

These programmes encompass light exercise sessions and engaging crafts activities.

Deputy Minister Maryam Lahfa Khaleel told Sun that the aim of these initiatives is to ensure senior citizens have opportunities to maintain physical activity levels and foster social connections.

The light exercise programme, facilitated by NGO AgedCare Maldives, commenced yesterday and is set to occur every Sunday, according to the ministry.

Scheduled across different days of the week, the programmes at the centre are structured as follows:

  • Light Exercise Programme: Sundays, 4pm to 5:45pm
  • Walk Walk Exercise: Sundays and Wednesdays, 9:45am to 10:45am
  • Coffee and Crafts: Tuesdays, 9:30am to 11:30am

Lahfa mentioned that individuals aged 55 and above are eligible to participate in these activities by visiting the senior citizens centre and completing a registration form. Additionally, she noted that the centre will release an activity calendar outlining all planned events for the forthcoming month.

The senior citizens social centre was inaugurated in February by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu. The activities at the center are conducted in collaboration with NGOs and other government offices,
