Construction of six hospitals across the atolls is expected to be completed this year, according to the Ministry of Health.

State Minister Ismail Shareef said the facilities currently under development in HA. Hoarafushi, N. Kendhikulhudhoo, R. Dhuvaafaru, B. Thulhaadhoo, Lh. Hinnavaru and Th. Guraidhoo are scheduled to become operational before the end of the year. He made the remarks during an interview with Public Service Media (PSM).

The completion of these projects forms part of a broader effort to strengthen healthcare services across the country. The Health Ministry anticipates significant improvements to healthcare infrastructure by the end of the current presidential term, with expanded access to specialised and advanced medical services in the atolls.

In addition to the new hospitals, dialysis centres have now been established in nine regions nationwide. MRI and CT scan services are also available at all regional hospitals, marking an expansion in diagnostic capabilities outside the capital.

The developments are aimed at reducing the need for patients to travel to Malé for treatment and improving access to timely healthcare services across the islands.
