Fahmy articulated his belief that such endeavours contribute to STELCO’s overarching objective of advancing renewable energy sources. This initiative reflects a step towards the company’s environmental sustainability goals.
Muizzu’s announcement at the “COP28” summit underscored the national agenda to plant 5 million trees within the next 5 years, aiming to safeguard the Maldives’ delicate ecosystem from environmental degradation.
Set to commence on the 5th of the upcoming month, the tree planting programme will encompass residential areas, resorts, and other locales across the nation, as stated by the Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy.
The initial phase of the programme will focus on planting four species of trees, including endangered species, fruit-bearing trees, shelter trees, and indigenous medicinal plants. Emphasising a collaborative approach, the government encourages island councils, offices, and private entities to actively engage in this environmental initiative.
In a gesture of regional cooperation, neighbouring countries have pledged to contribute trees towards the 5 million tree planting programme, further reinforcing the collective effort towards environmental conservation.
