The Supreme Court of the Maldives has formulated a specific dress code tailored for lower court judges during trial proceedings.
Outlined as the “Dress Code for Judges of Lower Courts in Trial Proceedings”, this regulation aims to standardise the attire worn by judges presiding over trial cases in lower courts.

The detailed guidelines of this dress code have been crafted by the Judiciary’s Sample Department and will be made available for public scrutiny. Existing judges must be duly informed within four months of the enactment and publication of this rule.
The Judiciary Administration is mandated to provide the appropriate attire to judges, ensuring they are equipped with the requisite judicial robes.
Judges receive new robes from the Judicial Administration every two years, commencing from the date of their appointment. Effective October 1st, 2024, lower court judges are required to adhere strictly to the dress code specified in the third article of this regulation.
Maintenance and dry-cleaning of these robes are the individual responsibility of the appointed judges. In cases where the rule does not address specific matters, the General Assembly of the Judges of the Supreme Court of Maldives is entrusted to determine the appropriate course of action.
It underscores the significance of standardising judicial attire across lower court proceedings and ensures the dignified conduct of trials within the Maldivian legal framework.
