The Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Welfare has announced the opening of a temporary market at the North Harbour premises that previously housed a café.
The initiative is aimed at making agricultural products from island farmers more accessible to the public during Ramadan. Produce from seven islands will be available at the market, sourced from 10 agricultural farms certified under the Maldives Good Agricultural Practices (MGAP) programme.
The market is scheduled to open from Tuesday and will exclusively feature Maldivian-grown produce. Local vendors will manage the stalls, ensuring direct engagement between farmers and consumers.
Ramadan this year is expected to begin on Wednesday, 18 February.
