A joint task force detained three foreign workers for operating illegally during a raid on unlicensed cafés in Hulhumalé yesterday.
During the enforcement operation, officers inspected 22 foreign workers across several food and beverage outlets in the area. Initial verifications confirmed that three individuals were operating in violation of standard employment and immigration regulations, leading to their immediate custody.
The crackdown aligns with the government’s ongoing national campaign, “Operation Kurangi,” aimed at regulating the foreign workforce and addressing undocumented labour.
Minister of Homeland Security, Labour and Technology Ali Ihusaan recently announced that the government aims to fully resolve the issue of undocumented expatriates by May next year through biometric collection, identification verifications, and deportations of non-compliant workers.
Authorities confirmed that the three detained individuals remain in custody pending administrative proceedings and further investigation.
