Three illegal immigrants have been arrested and five food outlets shut down in a joint operation led by the Maldives Immigration, Customs, and the Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA).

Authorities said a total of ten locations were searched during yesterday’s operation, with five outlets receiving notices and subsequently being closed.

Three foreigners were taken into custody during the raids, while police confirmed that three other foreigners had been arrested and remanded for five days late last month.

The government has intensified efforts to regulate foreign workers and crack down on illegal immigrants. Immigration and police are conducting wide-scale operations targeting unauthorised businesses and irregular foreign residents, with several such businesses already closed and multiple arrests made.
