Three Injured After Fire Damages Hulhumalé Flat

Three people were injured after a fire broke out at a ground-floor apartment in Hulhumalé Phase I early this morning, leaving the flat severely damaged and uninhabitable.
The fire occurred at Flat No. 110 at around 1:10 am. Firefighters from the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Malé Area Command’s Hulhumalé Fire Station responded to the incident and extinguished the blaze by approximately 1:23 am.
According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), police believe the fire was caused by a tool-melting device that caught fire in the apartment’s sitting room.

Seven people were inside the apartment when the incident occurred. Five residents, including two children and three adults, received treatment at Hulhumalé Hospital.
Two people remain under medical care. One man is being treated for burns to his hands and legs, with Hulhumalé Hospital reporting that approximately 12 per cent of those areas were burned. Another man is receiving treatment for breathing difficulties caused by smoke inhalation.
The fire caused extensive damage to the apartment, rendering it unsafe for habitation.
NDMA said it is providing the affected family with temporary shelter and emergency assistance while recovery efforts continue.
