Tourism industry stakeholders have discussed challenges affecting air travel routes over the Middle East during the Maldives Tourism Intelligence Briefing, highlighting concerns over regional instability and its impact on connectivity.

The meeting brought together government officials and key industry representatives to assess the difficulties faced in air travel, evaluate the potential impact on the Maldives’ tourism sector, and explore possible solutions to mitigate disruptions.

In a statement issued by Visit Maldives Corporation, it was noted that discussions focused on ongoing changes in the global travel system due to the situation in the Middle East, as well as the possible effects on tourist arrivals to the Maldives through affected routes. Updates were also shared regarding booking trends and recent adjustments to flight paths.

Chairman of the VMC Board of Directors, Abdulla Ghiyas Riyaz, stated that the situation remains sensitive and requires prompt and coordinated action. He noted that while the current period presents challenges, it also offers an opportunity for stakeholders to collaborate and strengthen the tourism sector.

He emphasised the importance of ensuring coordination across all stakeholders and maintaining steady progress in developing the industry despite external pressures.

Industry experts shared key insights during the briefing, which was attended by more than 100 participants from both the public and private sectors. Attendees included representatives from the Pacific Asia Travel Association, the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation, and Maldives Airports Company Limited.
