Minister for Transport and Civil Aviation Mohamed Ameen has denied any knowledge of the “gathering” that took place in his building early last Friday morning. He also denied obstructing the investigation into the case involving the fall of a 21-year-old woman—who had attended the initial party—from a different building later that morning.
In a post made on X last night, Minister Ameen confirmed that a “gathering” did take place in the early hours of Friday morning, in the building where he lives. He added that he co-owns this building with three of his siblings.
(1) First, my heart goes out to the 21 year old young woman who is battling for survival, and pray for her full and quick recovery.

“This did not take place within the confines of my home or apartment. I for one had no knowledge or idea of this gathering, and cannot control what goes on outside my home or apartment,” Ameen added regarding the incidents.
He said two of his nephews took part in the “gathering” at his home and are now being questioned.
Referring to a later point that evening, the minister said the group eventually split up, and a 21-year-old man and a woman entered a house identified as Henveiru Fontania. The woman later fell from a small window of the building’s ninth floor.
In a closed press conference on Tuesday evening, police confirmed that the woman fell and was not pushed, countering claims circulating on social media about the incident.
“I only came about to know the above matters during the evening hours of Friday (18 April),” Minister Ameen said.
Minister Ameen also clarified that he does not hold a government position with any mandate related to law enforcement or investigation. He added that he has not influenced the investigation in any way up to this point.
“To this date, I have not made a single phone call or contacted a single person within law enforcement or the Government or anybody else to (a) obtain updates on investigation relating to the above matter, or (b) influence any investigation whatsoever, in order to distance myself from allegation of influence. Social media posts to the contrary are completely baseless and false,” Minister Ameen said.
