Two Channels Blocked Off to Public Amidst Thilamale’ Bridge Construction

MV+ News Desk | March 5, 2024

The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has issued a stern warning to sea travelers amidst ongoing construction work on the Thilamale’ Bridge. In light of safety concerns, the Ministry has reiterated the closure of two key channels, namely the Male’-Villimale’ and Villimale-Gulhifalhu routes, to maritime traffic.

Despite repeated directives, certain vessels, particularly those operated by resorts, have continued to traverse these closed channels, posing a significant safety risk.

The Ministry has underscored the potential for perilous accidents involving public vehicles navigating these waterways, which are currently undergoing extensive construction activities.

To enforce compliance with the closure orders and ensure public safety, the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has announced its intention to take decisive action under the Local Vessel Driving License Regulations.

As a consequence, licenses pertaining to the two channels affected by the Thilamale’ Bridge construction will be withheld from those found trespassing.
