The reclamation of land at Giraavaru Falhu is currently underway, with work progressing through the simultaneous use of two dredgers, according to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
President Muizzu shared updates on the project via X on Friday, posting photos of the ongoing work without providing further details.
The project, which had previously stalled after completing 54 hectares, resumed in January. Once finished, a total of 160 hectares of land is expected to be reclaimed from the area.
The reclaimed land forms part of the ‘Binveriya’ housing scheme, initially introduced during the administration of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. The scheme promised plots to thousands of residents from Malé, as well as land in Gulhifalhu and Hulhumalé.
