Two Men Arrested for Assaulting a Robbery Suspect and Throwing Him into Sea

Two men have been arrested for allegedly assaulting a robbery suspect, dragging him across the ground and throwing him into the sea, authorities said.

A video circulating on social media in recent days shows a man accused of theft being manhandled in a crowded area before being dragged and thrown into the water. The footage shows the victim wearing only jeans as a man in boots pulls him along the ground, after which he is further dragged and thrown into the sea. The clip also shows an exchange between the victim and another individual, though it contains no audio.

Police identified the suspects as Ahmed Hatim, 49, of M. Ziyaaraiifushi, and Ahmed Shareef, 50, of Andhaleebuge, B. Hithadhoo. Both were taken into custody and have been remanded for 15 days.

According to the person who posted the video, the man who was thrown into the sea was accused of theft. Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
