The government has begun renovation and upgrade works at the Tsunami Monument area in Malé City as part of efforts to improve public spaces in the capital.
Minister of Housing, Construction and Infrastructure Dr Abdulla Muththalib stated that the sheet piles in the area have significantly deteriorated and have been affected by erosion. As a result, new sheet piling works will be carried out. Repair works on the quay wall are also set to proceed, with the aim of creating a more welcoming and public-friendly environment.
The minister noted that the project forms part of a broader initiative to enhance community spaces and parks across Malé City.
Renovation efforts are also under way in other parts of the capital. Sultan Park and Republic Square are currently closed for refurbishment, while Rasfannu Beach is undergoing renovation.
