President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has assured employees of the Urbanco that there will be no adverse impacts on their salary, insurance, or other benefits despite the transfer of municipal services from Hulhumale’ to the Male’ City Council.
Following concerns expressed by some Urbanco staff, Muizzu addressed the issue in a post on X, stating that none of the employees would face reductions in their current compensation and benefits.
Muizzu further mentioned that the government would implement an appropriate mechanism to safeguard the interests of the Urbanco staff.
The Finance Ministry, Urbanco, and Male’ City Council signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Thursday to facilitate the transfer of municipal services from Urbanco in Hulhumale’ to the Male’ City Council.
Under the terms of the MoU, Urbanco will cease providing municipal services outlined in the Decentralization Act within one month, starting Thursday. Additionally, Urbanco has agreed to offer work sites and necessary stamps for service provision to the Male’ City Council free of charge for the next 12 months.
The transfer of all municipal services to the city council aligns with one of Muizzu’s electoral promises, which he committed to fulfilling within the first 100 days in office.
