Volunteers Unite for Beach Cleanup on World Oceans Day

Today, in commemoration of World Oceans Day, numerous individuals across the country have come together to participate in beach cleanup activities.

Organized under the initiative “Maldives for the Oceans,” this joint effort involves the collaboration of Parley, a private organization, along with the Ministry of Education and MAT (Marine Action Team).
The event kickstarted at 6:00 am and has witnessed the enthusiastic participation of the general public, school students, private associations, government and private company employees, as well as resort staff. Dignitaries attending the event included Vice President Faisal Naseem and Education Minister Dr. Aisha Ali.
This event encompasses cleaning the coastline and the sea, while also raising public awareness about marine-related issues. Additionally, attendees have been invited to sign the Ocean Pledge as part of their commitment to ocean conservation.
Following the signing of the Ocean Pledge, Vice President Faisal Naseem expressed that the natural beauty of Maldives stands as the greatest asset for its people.
The primary objective of this event is to promote a reduction in plastic waste across Maldives. Participants are encouraged to take individual responsibility for minimizing plastic pollution in the country’s seas.
Parley Maldives, has already collected and recycled an impressive 2,109,310 kg of plastic waste. Their efforts have been instrumental in preserving the marine ecosystem.
