Voting System Remains Impervious to Rigging: Transparency Maldives

During the press briefing, Sara Naseem, the Communication and Advocacy Manager at Transparency Maldives, explained that the assessment was based on data collected through interviews with 30 experts in the field and two advocacy forums targeted at young individuals.

Sara Naseem highlighted that the study revealed concerns raised by political parties regarding the Election Commission’s (EC) political influence. The parties expressed their belief that the EC faces challenges in terms of political influence, particularly concerning the deregistration of parties and the lack of clarity in the code of conduct for its members.
However, Sara Naseem emphasized that the study found no evidence to suggest that the EC has a systematic chance of rigging the upcoming presidential election. While certain issues regarding political influence were identified, the study did not indicate a likelihood of widespread manipulation of the electoral process.Transparency Maldives assessment provides valuable insights into the current political and electoral landscape ahead of the presidential election.
