The President of the PNC party, Abdul Raheem Abdullah (Adhurey) made a statement emphasising that they will not rally behind any political party for the elections, during the ‘President Yameen 2023’ rally organised by the opposition PPM-PNC coalition last night.

Adhurey confirmed that the PPM’s candidate for the presidency is former President Abdullah Yameen and will continue to be so. He called upon party supporters to maintain a vigorous campaign for the upcoming election.

Encouraging PPM supporters not to lose hope, Adhurey urged them to boldly expose the government’s mistakes and rally behind Yameen’s bid for power. He stressed the importance of relentlessly discussing the government’s instances of theft and corruption without interruption.

Echoing Adhurey’s sentiments, Maduvvari MP Adam Shareef expressed confidence that Yameen would not abandon the PPM and assured that no other party would retract their support. Shareef asserted that the PPM has formulated a strategy to defeat the current President in the presidential election and is poised to achieve a significant victory.

These statements from Adhurey and Shareef came amid discussions between the PPM and The Democrats, the party led by Parliament President Mohamed Nasheed.

Nasheed responded to the situation, suggesting that the best course of action might be for him and Yameen to refrain from contesting the election and instead focus on ousting the current government.

Consequently, the ongoing investigation is intended to be comprehensive rather than limited in scope, Nasheed stated. He also addressed past accusations made against him by PPM leaders, dismissing them as matters of the past.

Regarding Yameen’s candidacy, Adhurey clarified that while Yameen is the PPM’s candidate, his eligibility is contingent upon the outcome of his criminal conviction and imprisonment. If Yameen secures release from the High Court, he will participate in the upcoming election.

However, considering the time constraints posed by the pending appeal and the approaching elections, the outcome remains uncertain.
