Maldives Zakat House began accepting Zakat al-Fitr in the form of food grains yesterday, with collections taking place in the Greater Malé area.
The collection programme will continue until Wednesday. According to Zakat House, food grains will be accepted at the Centre for Higher Education (CHSE) building in Malé City.
Collections are scheduled to take place from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm on March 14 and 15. From March 16 to 18, grains will be accepted from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm and again from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.

In addition to food grains, Zakat House is also accepting payments through cash and card transactions as well as through several online platforms. The available digital platforms include the Dhiraagu Mobile App and Dhiraagu Pay website, the Ooredoo m-Faisaa Mobile App, the Maldives Islamic Bank Mobile App, the Bank of Maldives Mobile App, the FahiPay Mobile App, the Avas Mobile App and the Bandeyri Pay website.
Zakat House reported that it collected MVR 5.48 million in zakat within the first 15 days of Ramadan, marking the highest amount collected during that period in the past three years.
