June brings a diverse selection of games to PS+

The free games for the month of June for PS+ subscribers are:

  • Operation: Tango (PS5 only)
  • Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown
  • Star Wars: Squadrons

Operation: Tango puts you and a friend into high stakes missions where you have to work together – one person being the eye-in-the-sky hacker giving instructions and the other being the agent on the field carrying out the objective. This certainly sounds like a fun co-op adventure you’ll want to try out. Star Wars: Squadrons is another multiplayer game that’ll help to scratch that “I’ve always wanted to be in a space dogfight in a cool spaceship” itch.

Rounding out the month is Virtua Fighter 5 for PS4 – a remake of the classic Virtua Fighter 5 first released in 2006 on the PS3. Although the franchise hasn’t had any major releases in recent years, it’s also one of the original fighting games of the 90s. This is a good chance for fans of arcade fighters to try out this title.

Some updates on upcoming PS5 games

Horizon: Forbidden West, God of War Ragnarök, and Gran Turismo 7 were among the best-looking games that Sony showed off in their PS5 showcase stream. During that show, it was heavily implied that all three of those games would be coming exclusively to Sony’s PS5 – and fans were happy about this. They couldn’t wait to see how much better these games would be if they were created for the newer console generation.

However, it has recently been revealed by Sony that all three of those games will be cross-generation titles. They will be released on both the PS4 and PS5 at the same time. While this is great news for the large amount of PS4 players that won’t be able to get a PS5 anytime soon, it’s also a bit disappointing that these games aren’t next-generation titles like Ratchet & Clank or Demon’s Souls Remake. It’s good that more players will be able to play the games, but it’ll be at the cost of those titles being held back by last-generation hardware.

Good news for Battle Royale fans

Are you the kind of person who enjoys competing with lots of other players on a battlefield and winning over them all? Do you like the Bomberman game series? If you’re among the very niche group of players who said “Yes” to both those questions then you’re in luck! Super Bomberman R Online is here - complete with classic Bomberman maps and gameplay.

There’s really not much else to say. It’s a free BR game and looks really fun to play with that unique Bomberman style of recklessness and strategical bomb placing. Good luck!

Ubisoft to start focusing on more Free-to-Play titles

Ubisoft has announced that it intends to focus more on f2p games going forward. We will still see the big tentpole Ubisoft franchises like Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry as standard premium releases, but there will be more of a focus on free titles – including two upcoming f2p games based in The Division universe.

The new direction for Ubisoft is no surprise as more and more companies are finding success in this new business model. Some of the most popular games being played today are free titles that anyone can download and try out. However, many of these free games also suffer from predatory monetization and lackluster content. Let’s hope that Ubisoft’s future releases will spare better.

AMD’s RDNA graphics tech is coming to mobile

“We're happy to announce that we will bring custom graphics IP to Samsung’s next flagship mobile SOC, with ray-tracing and variable rate shading capabilities.”

This announcement from AMD’s CEO is great news if you enjoy gaming on your phone. Mobile gaming has been getting more attention lately, with more and more “big” titles being released for iOS and Android. RDNA is the same graphics technology that powers AMD’s latest desktop graphics cards and also the next-gen consoles. Bringing this over to mobile will be a huge boost to what kind of games can be played on those platforms in the future.
