According to the central bank, the winning design from this competition will be introduced as the brand new currency symbol for Rufiyaa. Much like how dollars are symbolized with '$', or euros with '€', the new symbol for Rufiyaa will be officially utilized to denote all Maldivian currency.

If that doesn't entice you enough, the winner will also receive prize money of MVR 20,000 for his or her design.

The winning design will be chosen based on a number of different factors. How relevant the symbol is to Maldivian culture or currency, how it can be used with various styles of fonts, adherence to typography standards, how it compares to standards used for other currency symbols around the world, as well as how easily the symbol can be handwritten; these will all be considered when choosing the winner of the competition.
