Fathimath Iyasha was just a student when she started Dhoadhi.mv in 2019. She says that many people thought of embroidery as something that can only be done on clothes. But she wanted to change that and make embroidery something very modern.

Today, Iyasha says her products have been used as decorative artworks, clocks, framed dry leaves or even worn as pendants.

The main goal of dhoadhi.mv is to provide customers with a memorabilia that can last for a long time. While all of her embroidery hoops are personalised with delicate details that customers request, her most popular product is embroidered hoops of couple portraits.

These portraits can also be customised with a sweet message of the customer's choosing or with more details in the back.

Dhoadhi.mv has also recently a new product: embroidered dry leaves. Here the intricate embroidery is done on a dry leaf.

These embroidered dry leaves when framed will give a simple, aesthetic and cosy look to your office spaces and homes.

For the future , iyasha says that she hopes to introduce new products that she can customize for her clients and also wants to find a way to encourage beginners to take up embroidery. She wants them to learn that embroidery is fun and easy to learn.

Speaking from her experience , she says that a lot of people have trouble believing in how can make a living by embroidering. She says while there is high demand for embroidered products there is also a lot of challenges. From finding good quality in Maldives to delivering the hoops from island to island , has made this business a little more difficult, she added.

To help creative artists come forward and take on challenges, iyasha says that the government could run artistic programs in different islands of the Maldives. She says that small business owners in the islands feel neglected.

Government could also arrange more ways to sell local products abroad and more chances to study further in creative fields.
