Video Games: Latest Stories and Breaking News of the Week

July is good pickings for PS+ free games.
The free games for the month of July for PS+ subscribers are:
- A Plague Tale: Innocence (PS5 only)
- Call of Duty: Black Ops 4
- WWE 2K Battlegrounds
A Plague Tale is the free title that’s available for PS5 players only. This harrowing and beautiful story is set in medieval times and told through the eyes of a young girl and her little brother. The game has you leading them to safety while trying to survive the black plague and other, more human evils.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is a game that hardly needs any introduction. Black Ops 4 is the 2018 release of Activision’s Call of Duty franchise. Although a few years old now, there’s enough content in the singleplayer and multiplayer portions for you to try out. It’s free, after all.
Last of all we have WWE 2K Battlegrounds. 2K Battlegrounds is to wrestling what Captain Tsubasa is to FIFA - a delightfully fun breath of fresh air in an otherwise very serious genre. This arcadey and colorful title is sure to be a fun party game with 4 payer local multiplayer.
FaZe Clan is implicated in a crypto scam
One of the most successful and well known esports teams on the planet, FaZe Clan has seen a lot of attention the past week. Several key members of FaZe recently started promoting a cryptocoin called Save the Kids that was supposed to be for charity, but launched to a lot of trouble. After encouraging their fans and followers to buy into the coin, these FaZe members then sold their share of coins the moment the coin was available to trade in public.
The fans who bought the charity coin lost all their money while the FaZe members who were allegedly part of this pump and dump scheme gained a lot of money.
Apex Legends is being hacked
And it’s thanks to one of EA/Respawns other multiplayer titles – Titanfall. Despite still selling Titanfall on all major platforms, the developers have left it to rot. Quite literally. Hackers and aimbots have taken over the game to the point where legitimate players can no longer play the game they paid for. To protest the complete lack of care that EA and Respawn have shown for these issues, some player(s) have taken it upon themselves to hack Apex Legends to display a “savetitanfall.com” website logo for everyone to see.
Although hacking in any form is illegal, it should be noted that the hackers who got into Apex Legends did not mess with the matchmaking or introduce aimbots to disrupt matches.
[Rumour] Valve is getting into the handheld market
Valve has tried a lot of different things in the PC hardware space over the years. In fact, this isn’t the first time that Valve will be releasing their own branded line of custom PCs. However, they hope to really dig in this time with their own version of a Switch competitor. Evidence of such a device – codenamed “Neptune” – has been found in Steam’s app code.
This portable PC will likely have higher specs than the Nintendo Switch, and thus will be a haven for emulation and smaller indie games.
Final Fantasy 9 is getting an animated adaptation
Final Fantasy 9 may not be as well known as it’s more famous brethren – namely, Final Fantasy 7 – but it’s still one of the most beloved titles to come out on the original PlayStation. It had incredible visuals for its time, and a memorable story to go along with strong traditional JRPG gameplay elements. While fans would be more receptive to a more modern remake of the actual game, the animated series is also very welcome for those who wish to return for another adventure with Zidane and the gang.
This announcement comes more than 20 years after the original game’s release. A release window for the animated series isn’t known at the time of writing, but hopefully we won’t have to wait too long.
