The Maldivian government is closely monitoring the condition of a student who sustained injuries in a training accident in the Philippines, according to Foreign Minister Dr Abdulla Khaleel.
The student, Abdul Maniu, is undergoing pilot training at the Airworks Aviation Academy. He was injured after coming into contact with the propeller of an aircraft during a flight exercise. While the exact nature and extent of his injuries have not been publicly disclosed, officials confirmed that his condition is under careful observation.
The Foreign Minister confirmed that he had spoken with Maniu’s father, Amir, to discuss the student’s current condition and the ongoing support being provided. Maniu’s mother and brother have since travelled to the Philippines to be with him. According to the minister, the student is currently in recovery.
Khaleel stated that Maniu’s father expressed appreciation for the continued support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Higher Education, and the Civil Aviation authorities. He also acknowledged the encouragement offered by fellow Maldivian students in the Philippines.
The minister noted that the government’s involvement in the matter is in line with President Mohamed Muizzu’s directive to prioritise the student’s wellbeing.
