A boat that went missing after departing from GDh. Gadhdhoo on Sunday evening has been located off the coast of GA. Vilingili, according to the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF).

The vessel, Brilliant Carrier, was en route to Hulhumalé with five crew members onboard – three Maldivians and two expatriates. It departed Gadhdhoo at around 8:00pm on 27 April 2025. The last known communication with the vessel was at approximately 2:40am on Monday, when the captain reported that the boat had exited the Huvadhoo Sea.

Contact with the vessel was subsequently lost, prompting concerns about its whereabouts. The incident was reported to the Gadhdhoo Police Station and the MNDF Coast Guard Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre at around 6:00pm on 28 April. A search and rescue operation was immediately launched.

On 29 April, the MNDF confirmed that the boat had been found by the Coast Guard’s Third Squadron under the Central Area Command. The vessel was located 48 nautical miles northeast of GA. Vilingili with a stalled engine.

Authorities have confirmed that all five individuals onboard were found safe. Efforts are now underway, in coordination with the boat’s owner, to have the vessel towed to a nearby island.
