The decision by The Democrats was announced last Tuesday, with the group citing the need to strengthen the opposition and enhance efforts to hold the current administration accountable. In response, the MDP’s national assembly resolved to organise a public event to receive the returning members.

Initially, the MDP stated that the government had not allocated a venue for the rally and indicated plans to hold the gathering outside the President’s official residence. However, on Friday, the Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure, Dr Abdulla Muththalib, confirmed that Sultan Park had been designated as the venue.
The gathering is scheduled to take place just days before the MDP marks its 20th anniversary on Thursday. The party has extended invitations encouraging public participation in the event.
