The tank was officially inaugurated at a ceremony held at the MWSC Headquarters Operation Center, attended by Construction and Infrastructure Minister Dr. Abdullah Muththalib, MWSC Managing Director Abdul Matheen Mohamed, the Chairman of the Board of Directors, senior management, and MWSC staff.
Standing at 27 metres, the new tank is the largest ever installed in the Maldives. It began operating in September last year and has increased Hulhumalé’s total water storage capacity to 22,600 tonnes, representing a 79 per cent rise.
When combined with Malé’s storage, the total water capacity in both areas has grown from 36,000 tonnes to 46,000 tonnes. In February, a temporary connection of the water pipeline on the Sinamale Bridge to the main water grid further enhanced the water supply in Malé City.
MWSC continues to work on increasing water storage capacity and improving the quality of service for residents.
