Here We Are: A Celebration of Maldivian Fine Arts

MV+ News DeskNovember 3, 2025

Bringing together a vibrant cross-section of the country’s contemporary art scene, Here We Are is a group exhibition currently on view at Gallery 350 in Malé. The show features selected works by artists from Fine Art Maldives’ publication’s first inaugural issue, Carved, a project which was launched on the opening night of the Here We Are exhibition. Carved, planned to be an annual publication, spotlights local creatives through both visual and literary expression.

The exhibition serves as a collective reflection on Maldivian artistry, highlighting how individual practices intersect to form a wider narrative of identity, memory, and place. Each artist contributes their own visual language, yet together they present a unified call to recognise and value fine arts within the Maldives.

Curated as both a showcase and a statement, Here We Are aims to amplify the voices of Maldivian artists who are shaping the country’s evolving creative landscape. Drawing from Carved, a coffee table publication featuring reproductions of artworks, poetry, and essays, the exhibition bridges print and gallery spaces, transforming the pages of the publication into a dynamic encounter with Maldivian art.

Running from 28 October to 6 December 2025, the exhibition invites visitors to engage with the local art community through perspectives that are distinctly Maldivian yet universally resonant.

Founded with the goal of nurturing a sustainable arts ecosystem, Gallery 350 has become a hub for both emerging and established artists. The space continues to collaborate with local initiatives and collectives to promote exhibitions, talks and publications that enrich the dialogue around art in the Maldives.

In essence, Here We Are is more than an exhibition. It is an affirmation of the strength, diversity and depth of Maldivian fine art, acknowledging where it stands today while looking ahead to its future.
The publication Carved is available for purchase at Authentic Maldives, Dive Club Nasandhura at Barcelos, Tiny Art Gallery in Thulusdhoo and Gallery 350. Proceeds from its sales go toward supporting the local art community through future publications, talks and exhibitions.
