Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef departed for Doha, Qatar, yesterday evening to attend the Second World Summit for Social Development (WSSD2).
The Summit, held under the auspices of the United Nations General Assembly, will take place from 4 to 6 November 2025 in Doha. It brings together global leaders to discuss advancing social development, eradicating poverty, promoting full and productive employment, and fostering social inclusion in line with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The previous World Summit for Social Development was held in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1995. WSSD2 marks the first global gathering of its kind in three decades, aiming to renew commitments to social progress and equitable development.
During the visit, Vice President Latheef will attend the opening ceremony and deliver a statement at the plenary meetings. His participation underscores the Maldives’ continued engagement in international efforts to promote inclusive growth and sustainable development.
