MPL Signs Land Lease With Uligan Council to Develop Yacht Marina  

Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) and the Haa Alifu Uligan Council have signed an agreement to lease land for the development and operation of a yacht marina in Uligan.

The agreement, signed at MPL’s head office, provides the company with approximately 70,471 square metres of land for the Uligan Yacht Marina Project. MPL CEO Captain Mohamed Shaffee signed the agreement on behalf of the company, while Uligan Council President Asadullah Mohamed signed on behalf of the council.

The proposed marina will provide additional services and facilities for yachts visiting Uligan, with MPL stating that the project is expected to support increased tourism and commercial activity in the island and surrounding northern region.

The development is planned to include modern marina facilities and related infrastructure. MPL said the project is intended to contribute to the expansion of the maritime economy in the northernmost part of the Maldives and support regional tourism and trade.

Uligan is home to one of the Maldives’ prominent and frequently used yacht harbours, with tourist vessels continuing to dock there regularly even during the off-season.
