PNC to Open Applications for 49 Party Council Positions This Week

The ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) will open applications on Tuesday for 49 elective positions on its Supreme Council as the party prepares to hold its congress next month.

PNC spokesperson Uz. Mohamed Firuzul Abdulla Khaleel announced the timeline at a press conference held last night on preparations for the party congress, scheduled to take place from September 15 to 18.

Applications for the Council elections will be accepted through an online portal from September 1 to 8, according to the spokesperson. 

The 49 elective positions comprise:

– 6 party vice presidents 

– 18 general council members

– 10 female council members 

– 7 youth council members 

– 4 Women’s Wing positions 

– 4 Youth Wing positions.

Firuzul said applicants must submit police and criminal records issued within the preceding month.

The Supreme Council elections form part of the preparations for the party’s upcoming congress, where the new council members will be selected.

The PNC currently holds a supermajority in the People’s Majlis, while President Dr Mohamed Muizzu serves as the party’s president.
