Gov’t Urges National Sincerity as it Launches Respect Initiative

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has called on all Maldivian citizens to demonstrate genuine sincerity towards the nation through both their words and actions, following the formal approval of a nationwide initiative aimed at restoring social values.

Speaking at a press conference at the President’s Office today, President Muizzu outlined details of the upcoming “National Respect Project.” The Cabinet approved key elements of the project during its meeting on Sunday as part of broader government efforts to revive fading cultural traditions of mutual respect across the country.

The administration plans to roll out the campaign across every inhabited island in the Maldives. However, President Muizzu expressed regret over the decision by opposition political parties to decline the government’s invitation to participate during the project’s planning phase. He urged all political groups to present a unified front on matters of national interest and called for collective public engagement to ensure the project achieves its goals.

In addition to the respect campaign, the President highlighted upcoming national activities commemorating 900 years since the Maldives embraced Islam. As part of these commemorations, the government plans to execute a nationwide project installing religious advice and remembrance (dhikr) signboards along main roads across all inhabited islands.
