Muizzu Relocates to Muliaage Presidential Residence with First Lady
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and the First Lady have relocated to the official presidential residence, Muliaage.
The decision to move to Muliaage was made ahead of the Muizzu’s scheduled visit to Thaa Atoll.
Despite assuming the presidency on November 17th, Muizzu had initially chosen to remain at his prior residence in H. Dhimyath, citing ongoing renovations at Muliaage as a factor in delaying the move.
Muliaage, with its historical significance dating back to the reign of Sultan Muhammad Shamsuddin, has served as the official residence for several past presidents. Notably, President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom temporarily resided there until the construction of Theemuge in 1994.
Similarly, former President Mohammed Nasheed also called Muliaage home during his tenure from 2008 to 2012, prior to his resignation.
Following the previous administration, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih occupied Muliaage until November 10th, preceding Muizzu’s relocation to the premises.
The transition to Muliaage underscores the importance of meeting stringent security standards mandated by law and enforced by the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) for presidential residences, ensuring the safety and protection of the head of state and their family.
