Ahmed Shafneez Appointed Deputy Commissioner General of Taxation at MIRA

Ahmed Shafneez has been appointed Deputy Commissioner General of Taxation at the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA), after serving at the institution for more than 15 years.

Shafneez previously served as MIRA’s Director General of Administration and Finance.

The position became vacant after President Dr Mohamed Muizzu appointed former Deputy Commissioner General of Taxation Fathimath Ameeza as Commissioner General of Taxation on 16 July 2026, following parliamentary approval of her appointment.

Ameeza’s appointment followed her predecessor Hassan Zareer’s appointment as Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises, replacing Moosa Zareer. Moosa Zareer stepped down from the ministerial post, citing health reasons, but later expressed support for President Muizzu at a PNC rally held days after his resignation.
