Maldives Police Service arrested a 23-year-old man in Kaafu Maafushi on 16 October following a joint operation targeting illegal alcohol sales on the island.
The suspect, identified as Nabeeh Abdul Rasheed from Haa Dhaalu Kulhudhuffushi, was apprehended under a court order by Counter Narcotics Intelligence and Maafushi Police. A search of his residence on the island led to the discovery and seizure of 42 bottles of alcohol.
Following his arrest, the suspect was presented before the court for a remand hearing, where he was ordered to be detained for eight days.
Police stated that the investigation into the matter remains ongoing.
The operation in Maafushi follows a major crackdown in the capital recently, where police dismantled an illegal alcohol distribution network on 13 October.
In that operation, police arrested a 53-year-old Maldivian man alongside three Bangladeshi nationals and seized 826 bottles of liquor from a residence in the Henveiru ward of Malé and connected storage locations. Two of the suspects were remanded in custody for 15 days, while the other two received five-day remands.
