MPL Employee Dies After Fall Between Tug Boats

A Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) employee has died following an accident between two tug boats earlier today, the Maldives Police Service (MPS) confirmed.

Police received a report of the incident around 11:00 a.m. and said the employee, Ameen Abdul Hameed, aged 30 from Dhekonuge, Gaafu Alifu Atoll Dhevvadhoo, was taken to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Authorities have confirmed that an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is ongoing.

On November 2, 2025, an incident involving an MPL tug boat capsizing resulted in the death of a Bangladeshi crew member, Masud Hossain, 32, and Ali Aflah Abdulla, 25, from Gaafu Alifu Atoll, Gemanafushi.
