MPL Initiates Talks with Addu City Business Owners

Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has engaged in discussions with business owners in Addu City, to initiate regular shipments of fruits and vegetables from Tuticorin, India.

Wajeeh’s visit to Addu aims to deepen discussions with local business leaders, highlighting the potential impact on pricing and accessibility of fresh produce, in line with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s priorities.

During these meetings, MPL CEO Mohamed Wajeeh Ibrahim outlined plans to collaborate with an Indian import company, to establish a consistent shipping schedule to Addu, potentially operating every 10 to 15 days.

Responding to concerns raised regarding security and demand, Wajeeh assured that security measures would be rigorously addressed.

Additionally, MPL plans to utilise ferries for distributing imported fruits and vegetables from Addu to nearby Fuvahmulah, enhancing logistical efficiency and accessibility for both islands.
