Muizzu Nominates Ismail Habeeb for Human Rights Commission Position

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has formally submitted a letter to parliament nominating Ismail Habeeb, former Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM) Deputy Chairman, to join the Human Rights Commission of Maldives.

In his correspondence to Parliament, the President indicated that he selected Habeeb from a pool of applicants who responded to a call for commission members.

The President exclusively put forward Habeeb’s name for consideration.

The matter has been referred by Parliament to the Human Rights and Gender Committee for further examination.

Habeeb initially assumed office as a member of the Elections Commission on March 13, 2013, amassing 21 years of service in various capacities. He stepped down last March at the conclusion of his second term as a Commission member.
