The Maldives will host the SIDS Global Business Network Forum 2026 and the inaugural Island Investment Forum from August 23 to 25, bringing together more than 200 participants from over 30 countries.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the forums will take place at Barceló Nasandhura Malé Hotel and are being co-organised by the Maldivian Government, the Government of Antigua and Barbuda, and the United Nations Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States (UN-OHRLLS).
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Economic Development, Transport and Trade are organising the events on behalf of the Maldivian Government.
The SIDS Global Business Network Forum, held every two years since 2014, aims to strengthen the participation of businesses, investors, development partners and civil society organisations in the development of small island developing states.
Participants will discuss challenges facing businesses and investors in SIDS, explore economic and business opportunities, and share experiences and potential solutions. The forum will also provide opportunities for businesses, investors and development agencies to establish connections across SIDS regions.
Maldives to Showcase Investment Opportunities
The Maldives will use the forum to showcase its progress, expertise and innovative initiatives to an international audience, with activities highlighting developments in tourism, fisheries, renewable energy and conservation, the ministry said.
The inaugural Island Investment Forum was established under the Antigua and Barbuda Agenda for SIDS, adopted at the Fourth International Conference on Small Island Developing States in 2024.
The forum will focus on identifying investment opportunities in SIDS, connecting investors with projects and examining challenges that can hinder investment in small island economies.
The Maldives was invited to host the forums following its active participation in the 2024 SIDS conference, where President Dr Mohamed Muizzu called for greater cooperation among SIDS to support sustainable development and financing.
The Maldives also served as co-chair of the conference’s Preparatory Committee and hosted several high-level side events.
