A Turkish tourist visiting K.Maafushi has donated money to support the development and maintenance of mosques on the island.
According to the Maafushi Council, Funda Ozkuçu presented the donation to the Secretariat of the Maafushi Council, which expressed appreciation for the contribution towards the upkeep of the island’s mosques.
Mosque development in the Maldives is undertaken by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs and Endowments, as well as through initiatives by private individuals.
In September, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu laid the foundation stone for the Sultan Mohamed Bin Abdullah Grand Mosque and Islamic Civilisation Centre in Hulhumalé, marking 900 Hijri years since the Maldives embraced Islam.
The mosque is planned to accommodate approximately 10,000 worshippers at a time. It is named after Sultan Mohamed bin Abdullah, also known as Dharumavantha Rasgefaanu, who ruled the Maldives when the country embraced Islam.
