Sony Acquires Bungie for $3.6 billion

Sony announced earlier this week that they had acquired Bungie for 3.6 billion dollars. Bungie is the studio responsible for creating Halo, the game that made the original Xbox a success and also pioneered the online multiplayer shooter. Their latest success is the hybrid MMO/FPS/looter shooter Destiny and Destiny 2 which is still being played by millions and is considered to be one of the best games on the market.

Sony stated that this deal had been in the making since 2021 and was not in response to Microsoft’s latest studio acquisition. The head of Sony also stated that they would be pulling in more studios into the PS first party ecosystem to diversify the roster of games they have available for PlayStation gamers.

Crypto price decrease may lead to more affordable GPUs

As the price of crypto currencies continues to go down month after month, we’re seeing a trickledown effect on the price of GPUs. While the price of cryptos in general have gone down dramatically – with big players like Bitcoin going down by as much as 30% - the knock-on effect on GPU prices have been a bit smaller at around 10-15% price decreases of current graphics cards.

If the crypto market continues on this downward trend, then miners are less likely to want to spend money to buy more hardware thus leaving more supply open for people who actually need them at a more affordable price.

[Rumour] Kojima Productions working on a PSVR game

Insiders have said that Kojima’s game studio received PSVR2 prototypes last year. The only game the studio has released so far is Death Stranding – a third person action-adventure game which isn’t really suited for a VR port. It is much more likely that Kojima is working on a new game specifically for PSVR2, and it’s also highly likely that this game might be a horror title. The now infamous PS4 demo “PT” is considered by many people to be one of the best horror experiences in gaming despite being incredibly short and just a demo of a concept by Kojima. Perhaps he’s now at a point where he wants to translate that concept into the ethereal horror-VR genre.

Solo Leveling is getting a game

Solo Leveling is one of the most popular comics out from South Korea and read by millions worldwide. Fans of the series were sad to say goodbye to the story as it ended very recently, but now they can enjoy Solo Leveling in a whole new way. Although no release date was given, some gameplay was shown in a trailer that showed off a visually stunning game with a fast action hack & slash style similar to Devil May Cry.

The game has been announced for PC and mobile, and is stated to be an action RPG.

VR MMO Zenith is out now

The VR genre is the wild west when it comes to the sheer diversity of games available on the platform, yet there has been one genre of games that was lacking a bit until this week. The VR massively multiplayer online game Zenith just launched on all major VR platforms including Oculus and PSVR to a lot of praise. The game debuted as bestsellers on both Steam and the Oculus store – a very big deal considering the limited number of the current VR playerbase. As more people realize the true reach of VR in gaming and as the playerbase grows, the more likely it is that bigger studies will invest in games like Zenith for brand game experiences.

Halo TV series release date announced

The full trailer for the highly anticipated show dropped earlier this week with a release date announcement for March 24th. Halo can be viewed exclusively on the Paramount+ TV series. Little is known about the story as the trailer did not reveal much about the setting, although we do know that the plot will revolve around the two main character of the franchise, the Master Chief and Cortana.

Fans don’t have too long to wait to whet their Halo appetites as the series will start streaming in just a month.
